School Governor

David has recently joined a newly formed governing body of a secondary school. This new governing body will be taking over from an I.E.B and David is the chairperson of the Curriculum and Standards sub-committee.

Kingston-upon Hull L.A

David was the Lead Adviser for the Secondary School Improvement Team. He co-ordinated the delivery of the Secondary National Strategy and the National Challenge, brokering support from within and outside of the LA as well as delivering a range of teacher training. He also worked with head teachers, governing bodies and senior management teams to deliver bespoke training and support and organised ‘residencies’ in schools when the L.A. School Improvement team spent a week in a school supporting pre-Ofsted preparation and post- Ofsted improvements.

Department for Education

David worked for the DfE through The National Strategies as a Regional Adviser. He co-led a two year national pilot study on Transfer and Transition between Key Stages 2 – 3 working with Coventry, Gateshead, Leeds, Salford and Sandwell L.A.s. This worked was reported in a DCSF publication,’ Strengthening Transfer and Transition – Partnership for Progress’. David also did some work with the DCSF and the National Strategies on school management systems and pupil progress.

North East Lincolnshire L.A

David was the National Strategies Foundation Subjects Consultant working with all non-core subject departments in all of the L.A.’s secondary schools. He was also the lead consultant for Assessment for Learning.

East Riding of Yorkshire L.A

David spent twenty five years teaching in various East Riding secondary schools up to GCSE and ‘A’ Level. He taught English, Geography, History, P.E., Politics and Citizenship. He has been a Head of Year, and re-trained in 1996 to obtain a qualification in Special Educational Needs. He subsequently became a Head of a Faculty of Learning Support and a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator).  

David is very passionate about using his knowledge and experience to support senior leaders and teachers and to work in partnership with parents to maximise the potential of all pupils.
